Bloom Bank Africa Gambia Partners with Accountant General’s Department to Streamline Tax Collection

On Monday, September 30, 2024, Bloom Bank Africa Gambia Limited (Bloom Bank) and the Accountant General’s Department signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance tax collection services across the country. The signing took place at the Accountant General’s office in Banjul, with representatives from both organizations in attendance.

The MOU supports the rollout of a digital payment gateway introduced by the Accountant General’s office, which integrates key stakeholders, including the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA), the Central Bank of The Gambia (CBG), and commercial banks. The platform is designed to digitize revenue collection, and enable real-time transaction processing.

The platform will be rolled out in phases. The first phase will focus on digitizing cash transactions, allowing immediate recording and processing of revenues collected at physical locations. Subsequent phases will introduce bank transfers and online payment systems to streamline electronic revenue collections. Finally, the platform will integrate mobile money and Point of Sale (POS) transactions, making digital payment solutions more accessible across the country.

This partnership will provide more efficient service delivery for Gambians, allowing citizens to pay taxes and fees, such as for passports and business registrations, at any Bloom Bank branch. The collaboration underscores both parties’ commitment to utilizing technology to improve public financial management and enhance the efficiency of government revenue collection in The Gambia.
